A few weeks ago, I ventured to Minnesota to visit Alyssa, my best friend of over 20 years(!). I was thrilled to be able to spend some time with her and her family in their beautiful home in Minneapolis. I timed my visit to coincide with Alyssa’s 30th birthday, and we celebrated in style with a 1920’s themed party at a local club/lounge. Vintage cocktails, jaunty feathers, fringed dresses, delicious food, newsboy caps, sequins, pearls, spirited conversation with friends—in short, a delightful evening.
I packed light for this trip, relying solely on my trusty Fuji X100S, my preferred camera for travel (all of my Buenos Aires photos were taken with this camera) and times when I want to remain discreet. The lighting in the lounge was extremely dim, so I was a little worried about how these would turn out given that I wasn’t using flash—but I ended up loving the moody look of the photos.
Before the party, Alyssa, Wren (her little girl) and I spent some time meandering through the Mill District in Minneapolis, and taking in the bold colors and architecture of the Guthrie Theater. I’ve included a handful of those photos below.
Happy Birthday Alyssa!
